International Women's Day marked at GNDU Media Dept

Prerna adjudged best speaker in the Inter-DepartmentDebate Competition
Jalandhar 8 March (Jaswinder Azad)- In order to mark the International Women's Day, an Inter-Department Debate Competition was organized by the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, Ladhewali, here today. The topic of the debate was- Is Indian Women really empowered? The participants from different departments spoke in favour as well against the motion and covered various aspects of women and the kind of empowerment she enjoys today. In the competition, Ms. Prerna, B.A LLB stood first, Ms. Shreya baggedthe second prize and Mr. Abhinav was given the consolation prize respectively. Dr. Rupum Jagota, Department of Laws and Dr. Deep Kamal Randhawa, Department of Computer Science were the judges for the event.
 The debate was followed by an interactive session by Luveena, student from the department in which students talked about what empowerment means for women. While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Namarta Joshi, Head of the Department motivated the women to be more vocal about their opinions. She exhorted that every woman has been given equal status by the law but there is lack of awareness in the society. Further adding to the point, she said that being tolerant to domestic abuse and other related crimes, would add to our problems only. It is high time we all step out of our houses and try to achieve our goals.
Dr. Randhawa said that the society should not be rigid and men need to be trained by parents to be more sensitive towards women and everyone should learn to adjust in life.
Dr. Charan Kamal Walia, Ms. Sukriti, Ms. Muskan, Ms. Savita, Ms. Sukhmani and Mr. Rama Shankar were also present on the occasion.
