National Press Day celebrated at KMV with full zeal and fervour

-Free Press can strengthen democratic setup in India
 
Jalandhar 16 November (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar-The Heritage and Autonomous institution is always acknowledged as harbinger of change in the society. In this direction, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of KMV successfully organised a Two-Day Panel discussion on Role of Press in Making of Young India to celebrate the National Press Day at college premises.
The rationale behind organising this two-day thought provoking sessions of media educators, media editors and senior journalists was to infuse the idea of free and Fairless Press. On second day of the seminar, Sh. Jatinder Pannu Ji Veteran Journalist, Sh. Satnam Manak Ji, Senior Journalist, Professor Kamlesh Singh Duggal Ji, Former Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication,GNDU Regional Campus, Jalandhar and Dr. Ranbir Singh, Head, Department of JMC,IKGPTU, Kapurhtala were present to observe National Press Day.
While addressing to the gathering of media students, Professor Kamlesh Singh Duggal, briefed the idea behind the National Press Day celebration. He urged that Press Council should be replaced by the media council in India and more rights should be given to Media council to tackle the grievances of Journalist and people. Sh. Jatinder Pannu Ji, Veteran Journalist, Spoke about various issues related to media. He said that the role of press in making of young India can be praised only if; Indian Press raises the issues which are directly related to people's life and society. Indian press must play its role to maintain values and social norms.
Sh. Satnam Manak, Senior Journalist said that Press must be free from all pressure, only free press can act as a vehicle of change in modern India.  He talked about the duties and responsibilities of a journalist during this changing socio-political environment.
Dr. Ranbir Singh, Head, Deptt of JMC, PTU strongly advocated the need of development of Journalism. He emphasised that News papers and Media institution must develop the taste of development reporting instead of doing sensationalism of news.
Principal Professor (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi Congratulated to all the faculty members of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for organising a two- day thought provoking discourse on Role of Press in Making of young India. She said only a responsible press can lead youngsters and contribute for the betterment of the society.
