KMV Organises a Two-Day Panel Discussion on Role of Press in Making of Young India

Jalandhar 15 November (Jaswinder Azad)- Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar-The Heritage and Autonomous institution  organised a Two-Day Panel discussion on the topic of Role of Press in Making of Young India to celebrate the National Press Day. The main idea behind this Panel Discussion was to assess the role of media, its contribution in the society and responsibility to guide young people for a better India. On the first day Sh. Chander Mohan, President Arya Shiksha Mandal, a veteran journalist and senior editor was present amidst all as the Chief Guest during the panel discussion. In this vibrant Panel discussion, Sh.Suresh Seth, Media Scholars and Critique, Dr. Namarta Joshi , Media Educators and Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication , Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, Jalandhar, Mr. Raman Meer, Executive News  Editor, Dainik Bhaskar, Mr. Amit Sharma, Resident Editor, Dainik Jagran, and Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi participated as the panellists to discuss the role of media and its contribution for the development  of society. Sh. Chander Mohan also participated in the capacity of most senior panellist. Dr. Rubal Kanozia, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication moderated the whole panel discussion. In his address, Sh. Chander Mohan said that Press must act as a guiding force, a role model and as an agent of social change. Indian press had played a prominent role during the freedom struggle and to promote communal harmony among the Indians . Today, press must play its role to maintain values and social norms. He added that Press must be free from all pressure, only free press can act as a vehicle of change in modern India.  Dr. Namarta Joshi talked about the duties and responsibilities of a journalist during the changing trends of journalism. she also discussed the continuous information flow provided by social media. Sh. Suresh Seth drew the importance of press as the forth pillar of democracy and motivated all the budding journalists for fearless journalism based on truth. He also discussed  the concept of journalism as a profession and as a passion. Mr. Amit  Sharma in address stressed upon the contribution of youth in making India young and a better place to live. while discussing the responsibilities of an editor he also discuss the significance of reading editorials. Sh. Raman Meer commented upon the present scenario of newspapers and urged the budding journalists for journalism based on truth. During this interactive panel discussion many questions were asked by the students which were satisfactorily answered by the panellists quoting the relationship between Media & politics, social and political pressure on media, media as an opinion leader, influence on media of various thinking etc. Many Letters to editor written by the department students were also displayed during this panel discussion.
