Department of Commerce Of Apeejay College Of Fine Arts organized Faculty Development Programme

Jalandhar 16 November (Jaswinder Azad)- Department of Commerce Of Apeejay College Of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organized Faculty Development Programme on ‘Goods and Services Tax’ on 15th Nov 2017. The chief resource was Ashwani Jindal, CA. He is a regular and active representative of Character Accountants Association and is also the member of board of studies of ICAI and besides this a very good orator. Nearly 30 teachers of Commerce and Economics participated in this lecture. It was highly an enlightening session aimed to provide an insight into the intricacies if GST. Mr. Jindal elucidated the need of introduction of GST, how it removed cascading effect of various taxes, the rates at which taxes are being levied and who is authorized to collect the same. He told the gathering about the simplification of existing tax regime. To support his statements he mentioned the factual figures and told them that most of the goods are imposed tax at 12% and 18% and basic necessities are taxed at 0% and 5%. Only luxury goods are taxed at 28%. Government is trying to relax the tax levy on goods. He also introduced the faculty with the GST council, GST network, its working and so on. Our revered principal Dr. Sucharita Sharma appreciated the efforts of Commerce department for organizing the seminar on  such an interesting and hot topic. She added that this lecture acquainted the teachers with the knowledge regarding the new subject introduced in the syllabus of B.Com and congratulated the faculty for the success of event.
