Traffic Congestion Between Rama Mandi And Pap Chowk To Go As Service Lane To Be Operational By Coming Month

Jalandhar 14 September (Jaswinder Azad)- In a major ray of hope for the completion ofwork on National Highway number 1, which was hanging in fire from last eight years, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) today assured the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr.Varinder Kumar Sharma that service lane between Rama Mandi to PAP Chowk would be completed by next month to ease traffic congestion.
An assurance to this regard was given by the officers of NHAI during an inspection by Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha and Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr.Rajinder Singh today afternoon. During the inspection the Deputy Commissioner asked the officers of NHAI to ensure that service lane from Rama Mandi to PAP was operational by next month. The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police said that the project, the work on which has restarted recently, had played havoc with life and property of city residents, which was totally unwarranted and undesirable. They said that now the work on this ambitious project must be completed soon so that residents do not face any sort of problem.
The Officers also asked the NHAI authorities to prepare a foolproof plan for diversion of traffic from Phagwara side desirous of going to Hoshiarpur. They said that in the absence of a proper traffic plan the diversion of traffic from near BhoorMandi was creating a lot of problem in traffic on National Highway, so it should be avoided at every cost. They also directed the officers of NHAI to install proper lights along with the roads to avoid any sort of mishap.
Meanwhile, the officers also asked the PSPCL officers present on the occasion to speed up the work of shifting towers with high tension wires from near the PAP chowk, so that work could be completed at the earliest.  They also asked the NHAI and SOMA company executing the work to also complete the work of shifting the tanks on main road on the space desired by the Army officials. The officers also asked the NHAI and Soma Company to expedite the work on this project, so that the commuters travelling from Delhi to Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Jammu via Jalandhar to and fro could be facilitated, as this important stretch from Rama Mandi to PAP Chowk act as an important linkage of travelers to these areas.
Both Mr. Sharma and Mr. Sinha said that the completion of this would project would also streamline the traffic in city thereby giving much respite to the people from traffic bottleneck being created on NH-1. They further said that any sort of laxity in completion of this ambitious project was totally intolerable as already the project has lingered on since long.  Mr. Sharma also assured fulsome support and cooperation to the representatives of NHAI and Soma Company for early execution of this project.   
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Rajinder Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. HS Bhalla, Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Jasbir Singh Heer, Officers of NHAI and Project Manager of Soma Company Mr. KV Rao were also present on the occasion.
