ADC Exhorts Farmers To Shun Practice Of Paddy Straw Burning To Save Environment Of The State

Says Farmers Indulging In Such Practice Were Strewing Thorns For Their Future Generations
Jamsher Khaas (Jalandhar) 18 September (Jaswinder Azad)- The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jalandhar Mr. Jasbir Singh today called upon the farmers to shun the practice of burning of paddy straw for saving the flora and fauna of the state. Addressing the gathering during a seminar organized here by the Agriculture department to make people aware about hazards of paddy straw burning at Cooperative Society today, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that this practice was causing irreparable damage to our environment and human health. He said that it was the need of the hour to do away with this practice for saving the environment of our state. Mr. Jasbir Singh said that the farmers of the state, who were indulging in this practice, were strewing thorns for their future generations as this was causing serious damage to the environment of the state.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that paddy straw burning was a serious environmental hazard, which must be stopped immediately otherwise it would continue to cast a castigating effect not only on human health but also on our environment. He bemoaned that due to this practice along with excessive use of fertilizers the air and water of state was being severely polluted. Mr. Jasbir Singh also exhorted the farmers to pool heavy agricultural machinery through the Cooperative societies to reduce their input cost in agriculture and maximize their profits. He said that this would help in transforming the destiny of farmers by making agriculture a more profitable venture. On the occasion, the Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Balwinder Singh Chhina said that the department was organizing these special awareness camps to inform the people about ill effects of straw burning. Dr Chinnasaid that the farmers were unaware of the utility of paddy straw as if utilized properly in the field it enhances the fertility of soil. On the occasion Agriculture Officer Jalandhar Dr Naresh Gulati and others also addressed the gathering.
