KMV organizes One Day workshop on ‘Women Handicrafts of Punjab’

Jalandhar 28 February (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar, joining and exploring our rich culture is a constant endeavour.  The latest initiative was taken by the Department of Punjabi, which organized a one-day workshop on the disappearing traditional ‘Women Handicrafts of Punjab’.  For the students the day was that of interaction with different skilled women from all over Punjab.  These women acquainted the students with various traditional handicrafts like women baskets, woven strings (Nale), painting on walls, making earthen stores & maintaining them, fans etc. They also taught them the skills used in a traditional Punjabi home like preparing Saag, Makki ki Roti, buttermilk preparing popcorn in the traditional way etc.  These practical demonstration of life skills left on everlasting impression in the mind of the students.  The environment because more culturally enriched as girls and women together sang traditional songs like Suhag, Ghori and Tappe.  Mrs. Indu Verma, Controlling Officer, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar was the Chief Guest for the occasion.  She was welcomed in the traditional way the beginning of the day.  She observed that KMV was by organizing such programmes linking the new generation with the fast eloping rich cultural heritage and was also keeping it abreast with all that was modern.  Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi was also present on the occasion. She congratulated the Department of Punjabi on having creatively organized a programme which brought back to life our rich cultural heritage and attracted the present generation towards its colourfulness and utility.
